Mobil Gargoyle™ Artic SHC 226E synthetic oil for refrigerating compressors
Oil drain interval
increased by up to 200%*Situation
The Unilever Polska Plant in Banino is one of the largest ice cream producers for both the Polish and European markets. It operates a total of 11 refrigerating compressor units equipped with Sabroe (SAB 128, 193, 233), Gram (GSV 263) and Frick screw compressors – as well as Gram piston compressors working in ammonia refrigeration systems – to support processing lines and storage requirements. The total oil systems volume is 3,820 liters. A mineral oil change was previously performed once a year. The deposits resulting from mineral oil degradation were observed on compressor components.
Recommendation
The introduction of Mobil Gargoyle Arctic SHC™ 226E synthetic oil offered an excellent alternative as it extended oil drain intervals to three years, enabling a decrease in oil consumption, a reduction of costs related to oil separators and oil filters, as well as reduced oil derivative waste utilization costs.
Also, there were no deposit buildups in the oil tanks of screw compressors and crankcases of piston compressors, thus leading to a general decrease of compressor maintenance costs.
Result
Switching to Mobil Gargoyle Arctic SHC™ 226E synthetic oil helped increase oil drain intervals up to 200% compared to the previous mineral oil based product. That helped decrease maintenance costs and reduce waste generated for disposal.† The customer also experienced lower costs for separators and filters and related maintenance due to a decrease in oil deposit formation. Introduction of synthetic oil made the maintenance of the engine room and cooling installation much easier. The maintenance department at the Unilever Plant in Banino recommends the use of Mobil Gargoyle Arctic SHC™ 226E refrigeration oil to other users without hesitation.
